Oriental fish is one of the delicious Chinese Steamed Fish Recipes and is named due to the Asian flavor present in this type of fish and is easily available in any oriental fish market. This recipe is considered a supreme dish in Chinese, Japanese, and Korean cuisines. You can use any kind of fish for this recipe, but the lemon sole is my all-time favorite for Chinese steamed fish recipes. We will discuss a little about the origin of lemon soles in this article. We used our 10-inch bamboo steamer for this recipe which you can buy on amazon.
A marinade for all Chinese Steamed Fish Recipes:
Take a piece of ginger and thinly peel it in fine shreds. Now take 3 cloves of garlic and 2 green onions. Chop the garlic and onions. Remember to include the green parts of garlic as well. Now it’s time to prepare the sesame seeds, my most favorite ingredient due to the health benefits it has. Take a dry pan and place it on mild heat. Add sesame seeds in it when it becomes hot. Shake the pan to toss the seeds up and down slightly. In 1-2 minutes, the seeds will turn into brown golden color.
Take some olive oil in the pan and stir fry the above-prepared garlic and ginger. Make sure that they do not turn too brown. So do not take heat to a high level. The color of ginger and ginger should be pale gold. Now add this mixture to the sesame seeds which you prepared before. Also, add the rest of the oil.
Seasoning for Chinese Style Steamed Fish:
- The fish should be cut lengthwise along-side the natural central line. Tell your fish butcher to do this favor.
- Wash the fish fillets gently and remove any unwanted dirt or smell.
- Now take the above prepared marinade and season your fish fillets with it thoroughly.
- Firmly roll up the fillets.
- Now spread all the remaining mixture over the rolls.
How long to steam fish in a steamer basket:
- Place the steamer liner at the base of the steamer.
- Place the fish rolls uniformly at the base of bottom tier as the bottom tier is close to the heat source.
- Set the water to boil in a pan.
- The size of the pan should be as such that the steamer basket is fit into it.
- Place the steamer on a pan consisting of 1-inch water.
- Wait for 10-12 minutes.
- And the recipe is done.
- Serve it inside the same steamer for a natural look.
